Drug abuse is the state in which people use drugs for the wrong reasons. Some of the reasons why people abuse drugs include forgetting their troubles and worries, to feel high, to be like their friends, to be cool, or to upset their guardians. Whatever the reason someone uses to indulge in drug abuse, they do not justify their actions. The effects of drug abuse are usually hard to cope with because they bring much suffering and discomfort to the person using the drugs.

The effects of drug abuse can be categorized into many groups. They include general, physical, emotional, psychological, and social effects. Something to reckon is that none of these effects add any value to the drug user. Instead, they all negatively affect the drug user’s body and their relation with the rest of the society.

Another of the effects of drug abuse is that they usually make a person dependent on the drug to an extent that the person is not able to do anything without taking the drug. This leaves the drug user a dependent of the drug. It is human to want to be free. That is why people hate being confined in one place, thus they are not able to do what they want. That is another effect of drug abuse: it takes away your freedom. You become a slave to it. In the long run, you are not able to do anything if you have not taken the drug. This is the state known as drug addiction.

The effects of drug abuse are not only experienced by the person using the drug, but they are experienced by their immediate family and friends too. When the addict uses the drug, it affects his or her relationship with the people around him or her. If he or she was a responsible person, the drug makes him or her neglect his or her responsibilities. This leads to constant quarrels in the family and will cause the family to fall apart. If the person using the drugs is a student who used to perform very well in class, when they start abusing drugs, their academic ability deteriorates.

This leads to them performing poorly in school and may lead to problems with the teachers. Another of the effects of drug abuse is that it robs society of useful people. When one starts using and abusing drugs, they tend to neglect their work. This leads to a drop in their work output and may eventually lead to them being fired from their places of employment, leading to the loss of a once very useful economical resource.
